What is the difference between traditional Two-factor Authentication and ACS ProtectID
Dual Channel Multi-factor Authentication?
There are two major differences. Two Factor Authentication involves two different authentication methods sent on the same network channel. ACS ProtectID Dual Channel Multi-factor Authentication method grants access to online accounts by sending one of the authentication methods such as a password, over a channel that is separate from the other authentication method. In addition ACS ProtectID Dual Channel Multi-factor Authentication was designed with multiple out of band methods to choose from to deliver flexible and redundant authentication.

Can ACS ProtectID Dual Channel Multi-factor Authentication be managed on-premises?
ACS ProtectID Dual Channel Multi-factor Authentication can be managed on-premises, in our hosted cloud service or a hybrid of both.
On-Premises: For on-premises deployment, the server software can be deployed on a single virtual machine or deployed over several machines. ACS Multi-factor Authentication is built to be highly scalable.
Cloud: If you don't want to deploy it on your premises, you can use our Cloud service. Interfacing your applications to the Cloud service is easily accomplished with ACS Multi-factor Authentication
Hybrid: In a hybrid configuration, you could keep your user credentials on-premises and use the Cloud for the communication functionality.
