Chipotle Suffering From Point Of Sales Breach
Malware designed to access payment card data from cards used on point-of-sale (POS) devices have been detected at Chipotle restaurants across the country.
The fast food chain Chipotle suffered a point of sales breach throughout 47 states and Washington DC.
Chipotle sent alerts to consumers regarding the POS reached that had occurred between March 24 and April 18 of this year.
In the public alert Chipotle stated that "certain Chipotle restaurants between March 24, 2017 and April 18, 2017. The malware searched for track data (which sometimes has cardholder name in addition to card number, expiration date, and internal verification code) read from the magnetic stripe of a payment card as it was being routed through the POS device. There is no indication that other customer information was affected."
A list of stores affected by the breach has been released. If you visited and made purchases at any of their location please refer to this form that Chipotle has released in regards to the stores that have been breached.
It is highly recommended that purchases made with a card at any of the compromised locations be closely monitored. You can also check with your banking institution on activating alerts to the credit file to catch possible fraud.
Cyber security firms are working with the fast food chain to enhance security measures and protocols in place.
